RESIDENTIAL TRASH
Pickup Guidelines
Residential garbage collection service begins very early on Monday through Friday, so please place your trash out the night before. To ensure a safe, clean and efficient pickup, please:
- Bag and tie all acceptable trash materials
- Place trash out the night before your collection day
- Do not park personal vehicles within 10 feet of containers
- If you have a 96 gallon cart, please face container handles toward your home
Types of Residential Trash Pickup
Waste Connections has a curbside trash pickup service with both automated and manual collection. We’ll pick up a variety of container sizes from 32 gallons to 96 gallons.
Residential trash pickup service is excellent for:

ACCEPTABLE RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE ITEMS:
- Normal non-hazardous household waste
- Broken glass (safely wrapped)
- Cat litter or small animal waste (if double bagged)
- Ceramics
- Pizza boxes
- Styrofoam
- Yard waste if no more than 50% of the trash
UNACCEPTABLE RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE ITEMS:
- Ammunition, fireworks
- Ashes, hot or cold
- Barrells
- Batteries
- Computers
- Dehumidifiers
- Electronics, radio, computers, TVs, etc
- Florescent lights
- Hazardous Waste of any kind
- Infections waste
- Items containing Freon: Refrigerator, Air Conditioner, etc.
- Items containing lead
- Items containing mercury
- Liquid waste of any kind
- Microwaves
- Propane tanks
- Tires
- Yard waste, grass, sod, leaves - Accept only if no more than 50% of load/Branches must be tied & bundled no longer than 3'
Residential Recycling
Residential recycling materials are picked up every other week. Depending on where you live, you will be assigned the Week A or the Week B schedule. You may view the schedules below.
Recycling Pickup Guidelines
Residential recycling collection service begins very early on Monday through Friday, so please place your recycling out the night before. To ensure a clean and effective pickup, please:
- Place recycling out the night before your collection day
- Do not park personal vehicles within 10 feet of containers
- Please place lid on 32 gallon recycling bin

- Steel food & beverage cans & empty aerosol cans
Glass
- Clear, brown & green glass food & beverage containers.
- NO BROKEN GLASS
Plastics
- #1—#7 Plastic containers & bottles with necks smaller than their bases
Paper, Paperboard & Cardboard
- All sizes of cardboard boxes
- Food boxes (i.e. cereal & Jello boxes)
- EMPTY paper towel & toilet paper rolls
- Paperboard packaging (i.e. tissue boxes etc.)
- Office paper—any color
- Shredded paper (place in clear plastic bag)
- Newspapers & inserts
- Magazines, catalogs & brochures
- Envelopes & junk mail
- Paper bags
- Phone books & other soft cover books
HOW TO PREPARE RECYCLABLES
Metal Cans, Glass & Plastics
- Remove caps or lids
- Rinse thoroughly
- It is OK to leave on labels and neck rings
Paper, Paperboard & Cardboard
- Flatten ALL boxes/cardboard
- Bundle all cardboard that does not fit into the recycling bin (no larger than 2’x2’x2’) and tie with natural twine)
- Check weather forecast: If the forecast calls for high winds or rain, keep your recyclables inside until the following pickup if possible.
- Cover loose paper with heavier containers to prevent it from blowing away
- Remove all packaging (Styrofoam, peanuts, plastic, bubble wrap, plastic liners, etc.)

- Broken glass
- Ceramics
- Chemical/pesticide containers
- Electronics
- Light bulbs
- Styrofoam
- Window glass or mirrors
- Yard waste
SPECIAL PICKUP GUIDELINES
Bulk Items
A bulk item is an item that is too large for the container or 32 gallon bag and includes items such as: couches, mattresses, tables, recliners, etc. A tire that does not exceed 36 inches in height or 16 inches in width is considered a bulk item.
One bulk item is allowed per week. Before placing your item out for pickup, please call to 717-709-1700 to schedule your bulk item pickup and get pricing.
Freon Items
Items that contain Freon require special collection and handling. Items with Freon include refrigerators, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, etc. Before placing your item out for pickup, please call to 717-709-1700 to schedule your Freon item pickup.
