The SLD Facility strives to have solid mutually respectful relationships with local leaders, municipal officials and especially the neighbors in close proximity to its operations. These parties are encouraged to contact our District Manager at the SLD facility with questions or concerns they may have about our facility. See below for a link to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s complaint system used to report issues associated with various non-affiliated waste management operations located off Zemel Road.
Waste Connections gives back to its surrounding areas by contributing to youth, environmental, cultural and economic programs. We’re committed to many local charities and we’re an active participant in numerous special events. In addition, we have speakers who regularly talk to school groups around the county about the solid waste industry and recycling.
Our employees are encouraged to participate in the community by serving on non-profit boards and committees. Many of our employees also serve on local school boards and church councils; they are soccer coaches, tutors and volunteers. We have thoroughly committed to be a good and responsible corporate citizen.
As an example, our parent company, Waste Connections, started building bikes in 2011 for children in need at Christmas time. At the SLD Facility we embrace the Christmas Promise Bike Build that gives us an opportunity to give back to the community where we live and serve.
In 2019 SLD and it’s affiliated companies in Ft. Myers and Naples were able to raise funds for, build and gift 175 bicycles to organizations helping children in the surrounding area.
