SAFE COLLECTION

Waste Connections strives to assure the complete safety of our customers, our employees and the public in all our operations. ​ Please only place approved items in carts, and place the carts according to the diagram and instructions below for safe collection.

  • Leave 3 feet between containers
  • Handles should face towards your house
  • Do not drill into, bolt or fasten anything to the cart
  • Materials should not be higher than the lid of the container or be placed on top of the lid
  • Trash should be bagged and tied
  • Do not pack materials tightly into cart
Residential recycling & Trash Materials

For safety, legal, and environmental reasons, not all materials can be placed in the trash or recycling containers for collection. ​ Please review the Acceptable and Unacceptable lists below.

ACCEPTABLE RESIDENTIAL RECYCLING ITEMS

Metal

  • Aluminum beverage cans
  • Steel food & beverage cans & empty aerosol cans

Glass

  • Clear, brown & green glass food & beverage containers
  • No broken glass

Plastics

  • #1—#7 Plastic containers & bottles with necks smaller than their bases

Paper, Paperboard & Cardboard

  • Food boxes (i.e. cereal & Jello boxes)
  • EMPTY paper towel & toilet paper rolls
  • Paperboard packaging (i.e. tissue boxes etc.)
  • Office paper—any color
  • Shredded paper (place in clear plastic bag)
  • Newspapers & inserts
  • Magazines, catalogs & brochures
  • Envelopes & junk mail
  • Paper bags
  • Phone books & other soft cover books

How To Prepare Recyclables

  • Remove caps or lids
  • Rinse thoroughly
  • It is OK to leave on labels and neck rings
  • Flatten ALL boxes/cardboard
  • It is OK to leave on labels and neck rings
  • Bundle all cardboard that does not fit into the recycling bin (no larger than 2’x2’x2’) and tie with natural twine)
  • Check weather forecast: If the forecast calls for high winds or rain, keep your recyclables inside until the following pickup if possible
  • Cover loose paper with heavier containers to prevent it from blowing away
  • Remove all packaging (Styrofoam, peanuts, plastic, bubble wrap, plastic liners, etc.)
  • Phone books & other soft cover books

UNACCEPTABLE RESIDENTIAL RECYCLING ITEMS

  • Broken glass
  • Ceramics
  • Chemical/pesticide containers
  • Electronics
  • Light bulbs
  • Styrofoam
  • Yard waste
  • Window glass or mirrors

ACCEPTABLE RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE ITEMS

  • Normal non-hazardous household waste
  • Broken glass (safely wrapped)
  • Cat litter or small animal waste (if double bagged)
  • Light bulbs
  • Pizza boxes
  • Styrofoam

UNACCEPTABLE RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE ITEMS

  • Ammunition, fireworks
  • Ashes, hot or cold
  • Barrells
  • Batteries
  • Dehumidifiers
  • Electronics, radio, computers, TVs, etc
  • Florescent lights
  • Hazardous Waste of any kind
  • Infections waste
  • Items containing Freon: Refrigerator, Air Conditioner, etc
  • Items containing lead
  • Items containing mercury
  • Liquid waste of any kind
  • Microwaves
  • Propane tanks
  • Tires
