New Waste Regulations are Coming to Lower Manhattan!

It's required for businesses to partner with an authorized waste hauler, or the Department of Sanitation (DSNY) will assign one to you.

  • Starting April 1, 2026
    the transition period to contract with an authorized waste hauler begins in Lower Manhattan for all waste and recycling services.
  • By May 31, 2026
    every business in Lower Manhattan must have a written contract with an authorized waste hauler by the end of the transition period.

If you are a commercial business and your waste is collected by a private hauler, you must sign a new written service agreement with a zone-authorized hauler between April 1, 2026 and May 31, 2026, or DSNY will choose one for you. Waste Connections of New York is authorized to work in your zone.
